Ceramic Bezel and Luminous Display
The Sea-Dweller's unidirectional rotating 60-minute scale bezel allows divers to keep track of their dive and decompression times accurately and safely. The watch is equipped with a patented black Cerachrom bezel developed by Rolex and made of highly scratch-resistant ceramic that will not fade even when exposed to UV rays. A thin film of gold is applied to the indexes using the PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating technique. The sleek black dial is fitted with oversized Chromalight hands and hour markers coated with a luminescent material that emits a long-lasting blue glow in the dark, making them easy to read.
Black dial
The black dial of the Sea-Dweller features oversized hands and hour markers designed for professional watches. "Sea-Dweller' is engraved in yellow on the black dial to complement the gold of the watch. For the 2017 model, 'Sea-Dweller' is engraved in red to pay tribute to the first Sea-Dweller. The Chromalight display on the watch face ensures that the wearer can read the time clearly in dark conditions. The unique blue color of the Chromalight display lasts up to eight hours, which is twice as long as ordinary luminescent materials.
Gold Steel
Gold is a beautiful, noble, and fascinating thing to behold. Steel is strong and trustworthy. The harmony of the two is combined with other characteristics. Gold and steel were the hallmark features of Rolex watches from the early 1930s until 1933, when the trademark name was officially registered. It is also one of the distinctive features of the OYSTER collection.
