Gradual blue dial
Each watch face is a masterpiece of subtle artistry. A wide range of colors, shades, textures, and decorative elements are combined with the overall design to give the watch a distinctive look. All aspects of the design and production of the watch are done in-house. From the initial sketch to the final inspection, including coloring and marking, the entire process involves a series of steps and operations that incorporate specific Rolex expertise. These include enameling, a craft that has been passed down through the watchmaking industry for many years, as well as modern technologies such as magnetron cathodic sputtering. Magnetron cathodic sputtering refers to a sophisticated technique that involves the deposition of a thin film in a vacuum environment to color the surface of a watch. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology required to produce a Rolex watch face is a vivid illustration of the essence of the brand's philosophy: the quest for excellence in the pursuit of a flawless, long-lasting and fascinating result.
Pitted bezel
The Rolex triangle pattern is a characteristic feature of the brand's watches. Initially, the OYSTER bezel's triangular pitches served a practical purpose, helping to secure the bezel to the case by screwing it down and ensuring that the watch was water-resistant. The same was true of the pitched caseback, which was screwed into place with a special Rolex tool. Later, the triangular pitched pattern evolved into an aesthetic design element that has become an iconic feature of Rolex. Today, it is a characteristic feature of the brand's timepieces, and the bezel of this Day-Date 36 is made of gold.
18K White Gold
Rolex has a dedicated foundry that develops high-quality 18K gold alloys. By mixing different amounts of silver, copper, platinum or palladium, different types of 18K gold are produced: yellow, pink or white gold. All raw materials are made from high purity metals and are carefully tested in our own laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment before the gold is shaped, with meticulous attention to detail in every step of the process. The pursuit of excellence from the very beginning of the production process has always been Rolex's obsession.
