Silver-colored dials
Many of the OYSTER models feature a sunray effect on the dial, which reflects the lightness of the watch. This effect requires a sophisticated brushing technique that creates a pattern of engravings that extends from the center of the watch face outwards. The light is dispersed along the markings, creating a subtle yet distinctive effect that reveals itself in different shades as the wrist moves. Once the sunray effect has been completed, the watch is then colored by physical vapor deposition or electroplating, and finally finished with a varnish.
OYSTER STEEL
Rolex uses OYSTER STEEL to forge its steel cases. The OYSTER steel developed by the brand belongs to the group of 904L steels, an alloy widely used in high-tech, aeronautical and chemical applications, and therefore necessarily highly resistant to corrosion. OYSTER STEEL is extremely durable and shines brilliantly when polished, even in extreme environments.
OYSTER STRAPS
The Oyster bracelet is a sturdy, comfortable bracelet that combines form, function, aesthetics and technology. The bracelet is fitted with an OYSTER clasp and an easily adjustable chain extension system, also unique to Rolex. With this ingenious device, which is unique to Rolex, the wearer can extend the bracelet by approximately 5 millimeters for comfort in all conditions.
